Weddings

Congratulations! We'd like to help you plan your very special Wedding. Legally, you can get married in the parish church where you live; so, to get married in St John the Baptist, Wonersh or St Martin’s, Blackheath, at least one of you must live in this parish (click here for a simple map of the parish boundary). You could phone 01483 890266 or email the parish office to arrange an appointment to ask about your Wedding here.

If you don’t live in the parish, you may still be able to get married here if you worship in our churches as a signed-up member, or with a Special Licence from the Archbishop of Canterbury's Faculty Office. A signed-up member means on the Church Electoral Roll. Note that this is not the same as the Civic Register of Electors – the latter allows you to vote for local Councillors & MPs.

Special Licence: Please click on the Church of England’s site for more information, and in particular the FAQs: “What if I want to be married in a different church?” and following questions. You may also find it helpful to click on this link to the Faculty Office or to phone them on 020 7222 5381, to find out more.If you decide to apply for a Special Licence, you can ask the Faculty Office to post a form, or we have a few blank forms in the office here.

Other questions arise if you have been married before. Email us telling us your phone number and where you live, and we'll talk through what happens next. Please see also “I’m divorced. Can I still get married in church?”

For most weddings, except those by Licence, banns must be read on three Sundays before the wedding, in each parish where bride and groom live. If you are getting married somewhere other than Wonersh or Blackheath, and need your banns read here, please phone 01483 890266 or email the parish office.
