Prayer in the Parish

Philippians 4:5-7
………
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God…..

Colossians 4:2

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

You may find it helpful to refer to the three recent sermons in the Series Personal Devotion – Quiet Time, Reading the Bible and Devotion in Prayer.

·                                 Prayer is exhaling the spirit of man and inhaling the spirit of God – Edwin Keith.  (does anybody know who Edwin Keith is??)

·                                 Prayer requires more of the heart than of the tongue – Adam Clarke.

·                                 Most people commit the same mistake with God that they do with their friends; they do all the talking

Prayer Meetings

Saturday Meeting  -  Please join the regular prayer meeting held on every Saturday morning at 9.00 normally in the Selwyn Room, and at Blackheath on 2nd Saturday of each month when a number of Home groups meet to pray together.  At these meetings we pray as a church for our leaders, the community, the nation and the world.  They are very informal and anyone is welcome to attend.

Weekday Meetings  -  Start the Day with God.  At 8.50am for a half hour service of prayer and readings in the Church (or the Selwyn Room).   Look on the Weekly News Sheet to see what days these will be and where.  This is currently “The Whole Bible in a Year”.

Prayers for Healing

We provide the opportunity for individuals to pray with others for Healing.  At Wonersh on the first Sunday each month at the morning Communion Service, and also on the second Sunday at the evening communion service, there will be prayers for healing in the Lady Chapel.

Prayer Partners

Prayer partners or triplets are also encouraged and many find this very helpful.

Home Groups

Learn and grow in faith in a home group, and support each other in prayer.  At the request of the Children’s & Youth Team, each homegroup has taken on the challenge to “adopt” one group in order to be able to pray for them.

Intercessions

There are prayer intercessions at most services in which there is an opportunity for everyone to participate or contribute.  Please contact any member of the Leadership Team if you would like to become an Intercessor, or if you have anything you wish to be included.  See the Guide for Leading Intercessions for help on what to do.  Preferably if you wish to join the rota contact Christine Merritt, see the Service Programme for details of the rota.

Personal Prayer

Pray systematically for the Parish of Wonersh and Blackheath.

·         Pick up the Monthly Prayer Topics sheet.  If you have any item for prayer please contact Ruth Fowke.

·         Use Care’s Concise Prayer Guide with weekly prayer topics – leaflet available in the porch.

·         Pray systematically for our OMST Partners.

Wonersh with Blackheath Prayer Chain

There is a ‘prayer chain’ so that pressing needs can be prayed for confidentially by a small team at short notice.  For any Prayer Requests please telephone Barbara Barter or if she is unavailable Chris Goldsmith or Anne Wyatt.   All prayer requests are treated in  strict confidence.

Pray-ers

Individuals are invited to pray regularly for specific young people.  If you would like to be involved in this valuable part of our ministry, contact Nicky Cooke.
