- Colossians 3:15-17;
…..as you sing psalms, hymns and
spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do,
whether in word or deed, do it all in the name
of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Music at St John the Baptist, Wonersh
Wonersh has a gifted and enthusiastic organist (now semi-retired) who continues to organise the music, using several volunteers who play for services on a rota basis. The main instruments used in worship are a Clavinova and a pipe organ, often accompanied by woodwind, strings or percussion instruments. Occasionally an informal band leads the singing. Both modern and traditional hymns are sung, and these are taken from Songs of Fellowship (volumes 1 & 2), The Source and Junior Praise. A choir (not robed) is formed for special occasions, such as the carol service at Christmas.
Our musicians include Ruth Sowter (organ & keyboard),
Paul McCormick (organ), and keyboard players Chris Goldsmith, Christopher
Millard, Ruth Allan, Becca Bacon and John Mash.
There isan
emphasis on youth at one Sunday evening service per month with U-†urn providing a band. We are looking for musicians of any ability
or age to help invigorate our worship. Anyone interested should contact Jon Noble.
The two-manual pipe organ was built in 1885 by the firm of T C Lewis for John Courage, a member of the brewery family. It was the last one to be built by “Grandfather” Willis. It was almost certainly initially installed in the great hall at Snowdenham, the Courage family house in Bramley, and was presented to Wonersh church soon after the restoration in 1901.
Music at
At the Holy Communion Service on the first Sunday in the month and at the
Evensong on the third Sunday in the month, singing is led by the Church Choir.
The Choir also sings at special services throughout the year and a larger
Christmas Choir sings at the traditional Candlelit Carol Service held each
December. Music at the Family Service might be played on the organ, keyboard or
guitar. We use Common
Praise. Paul McCormick normally
plays the organ. Contact Patricia Allen
for details of the choir.
