CHURCH HOLIDAY

“Kingdom Come  New Wine Sat 26th July – Fri 1st August 2008

It’s great to go with a crowd – you get to know everyone much better than over coffee on Sundays.  So, if you’d like to come with us next year, take a brochure from church.  Online bookings now open – or join the team and go free.

If you’re not sure yet, talk to us or the Metcalfes or Batesons who came last summer, borrow a dvd, or there’s information on the website www.new-wine.org (including the dvd). Jane Scott-Thompson

I want to tell you about New Wine. It’s a Christian holiday that happens every summer, when everyone goes down to Somerset to camp with 12,000 other people (but don’t panic if you can’t stand the idea of camping – you can hire a caravan or even stay in a nearby B&B if you book in the next few weeks). I’ve been going to New Wine with my family every year since I was 2 years old and I love it. The children’s work is brilliant, with a large assortment of groups like Stepping Stones, Light Factory & KFC – there will be lots of music, fun games and learning about Jesus. There are also lots of things to do for parents and grandparents, and also people without families – everyone is more than welcome! I would say that New Wine is 70% of the reason why I am a Christian today – it really is that fantastic! It has made my faith a personal faith, instead of just a faith inherited from my parents.  Rachel Scott-Thompson

And for the grown-ups, we can relax with a cuppa, or go to a wide variety of worship celebrations & seminars, knowing that the children are being well-looked after & having a fantastic time. It’s not just for the ‘average’ family with 2.4 kids – those on their own are welcome too – you’re part of the wider church family. What if someone isn’t a regular churchgoer? You don’t have to go to any events, though there are optional ‘Just Looking’ sessions especially for you. Also, there are lots of West Country tourist attractions nearby, and you can take the youngsters with you in the afternoons. Jane Scott-Thompson

Last Year

“Cry Freedom!”  New Wine 28th July – 3rd August 2007

We’ve been enjoying New Wine Family Conferences for the past 15 years, and would like to take a parish group from Wonersh and Blackheath in summer 2007, as our Church Family Holiday away.

New Wine is mainly camping or caravanning, so probably suits families best; there are some Bed & Breakfast and Self-Catering places nearby, but they book up quickly and you also lose out a bit on the social side of being in the group.  We would be sited together in a ‘village’ of tents and caravans, and walking or cycling a few minutes to morning and evening worship, seminars, shops and stalls.

The thing that has made our family go back year after year is the wonderful children’s and youth work, which has been crucial in helping our girls to grow in faith: it’s creative, well-resourced and exciting – and parents can relax, knowing the children are having fun, morning and early evening.  In addition, the adult worship and seminars offer top-notch speakers on a variety of themes, there is the huge benefit of simply spending the week together as a church and getting to know one another, and we have found that New Wine instils important Christian values in us just by being there.  Why not borrow and watch the 10 min video, or ask us about it?  We’ve also got brochures, magazines, and programmes from 2006; and of course, there’s a lot more information on the website www.new-wine.org, including lists of B&Bs, and tent & caravan hire companies .

If you’re ready to make a booking, please ask Ian or Jane for the correct details to put on the form.
