The Lawnsmead Management Committee are responsible to the PCC for the
maintenance and use of Lawnsmead and the Turner Room. The chairman is nominated by the PCC, three
members are from the church and up to three from Age Concern. They employ a caretaker who keeps the
buildings clean and assists with the lettings.
Costs for the building are some £9000pa (including £750 fabric
maintenance provision), which is offset by income from lettings of some £6500
in 2006.
This
is situated about a third of a mile from the church, in the heart of the
village. It is a Victorian building,
originally the village school, which had an extra meeting room (the Turner Room) added twenty-five years ago
for use originally by Age Concern. It
has recently been improved with the addition of a modern kitchen, toilets, new
flooring and central heating. The parish
youth leader has an office there and there is a small car park. The building is well used both as a church
and community resource
Wonersh Lawnsmead Infant’s School was built in 1890, at the instigation of the vicar (Elihu Body). Support in the form of donations was given by the National Society and the West Surrey Diocesan Society. The first headmistress was Mrs Green The school closed in 1924 and it’s pupils transferred to Shamley Green, Bramley and Shalford schools.
