Financial
Giving
BibleGateway.com: 2 Corinthians 9:7
Each
man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or
under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
But
when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand
is doing, so that your giving may be in secret.
Then
your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
It is often said that Martin Luther taught the need for three conversions: one of the heart, one of the head and one of the wallet.
The last conversion is often the test of the authenticity of the first two.
Giving is part of our
worship.

PLEASE KEEP YOUR GIVING TO THE CHURCH UNDER REVIEW
Christian
Stewardship is about sharing in God’s
amazing generosity to each one of us. With the assurance that, seeking the
guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are being the best stewards of God’s gifts that
we are able please keep your giving continually under review. Remember God loves a cheerful giver, when we let go of our purse strings it brings us complete
freedom in Christ!
Members of
the fellowship contribute to the life and work of the church in many different
ways. Whilst the information below relates to financial giving, other pages on
this site explain the variety of ways you can get involved and contribute to
our many ministries.
It is our
policy to give outwards at least 10% of our income and this can be seen on the Overseas Mission Support Team and Home Mission pages. Individually we
may give to several good causes as well as our church. You may have read about how the children of
KFC and Light factory support Abel and
Tigist through Tearfund,
and we encourage you to do so as well.
Give regularly
The
bank used by Wonersh PCC is CAF Banking Ltd. Blackheath DCC use Lloyds Bank. Please

Other ways to give:-
If you pay UK tax (including PAYE,
savings or investment income, capital gains or by direct payment to the Inland
Revenue) we can increase the value of your giving by the basic rate, currently
28p for each pound given. (If you pay
higher rate tax, you may recover this through your own tax return.). If you have not done so already you will need
to fill in, sign and return to us an ongoing Gift Aid Declaration (this can be printed from above).
If
you have any questions on these or other ways of giving, please contact any
member of the Finance Team.

Some Notes on
Tithing (giving of 1/10th of your income)
It is often said that the tithe is Old Testament legalism Leviticus 27:30. In face it is first mentioned in Genesis
14:17-20 where Abram voluntarily gave a 10th of all he
had to Melchizadek. There is no
punishment in the O/T Law for not tithing, so it has always been a voluntary
act. But Tithing brings Blessings (Malachi
3:10).
In the New Testament, Jesus commends tithing in Matthew
23:23 at the same time as condemning the Pharisees for the way they
tithed. In thinking about our own giving
it is clear that God does not command us to tithe, but it may be helpful to
think about how much of our wealth God owns.
The story of the Widow’s
mite (Luke 21) is very instructive and suggests that for many of us
a tithe or a tenth part of what we earn should be the minimum level of our
giving. What the NT does tell us is that
we should give generously, unselfishly and unconditionally.
