BBC News have picked up on the Appeal at Blackheath which is to be launched at the Blackheath May Day Village Fair. There is reception for those wishing to support the St Martin's Blackheath Appeal on Wednesday 18th June in Blackheath Village Hall, when a talk will be given by Olive Maggs about the paintings.

There are a number of opportunities that will arise at the APCM in April for individuals to serve the church.  There are 4 vacancies on the PCC plus 1 as a Deanery Synod representative.  We have 8 nominations so far.  We still require 1 further nomination for Churchwarden for Wonersh.

We are always looking for members for several Teams.  Workers in Children’s and Youth Ministry are always required.  Please contact Ian or the Wardens if you are interested.

To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the casting and installation of our current fine peal of bells at St John the Baptist Wonersh, we are planning to ring a full peal of 5040 changes on the bells.  That will take about three hours of continuous ringing and will require considerable mental concentration and some physical fitness by our local band.  Target date for our first attempt is the morning of Saturday 26th April.

The M’Cheyne Bible Calendar reading (18thApril) was  Ecclesiastes 5:8-20; relevant to our Appeals at Blackheath and Wonersh.

Please support the Charity Table Top Sale at Lawnsmead Saturday 26th April 10am-12pm in aid of Mission Direct (Ugandan Aids orphans) and Retrak (street children).  These charities are actively supported by members of this church, including Brenda Williams, Tessa Auty and Harriet & Molly Foges.  See the page on Fundraising & Christian Breaks for more information.

Consider sponsoring a child trough Compassion ; Anne Heine-Carmichael who now works for Compassion has just returned from Peru.

Please try to attend at least one of the services at Wonersh on 20th and 27th April in order to hear about the huge challenge before us to meet budgetary requirements and an urgent need to review our regular giving.  The talks and handout(s) will be available on this website by selecting Wonersh Appeal.  The team will be providing information about our position and explain what we should do to support our church vision. John Revess is our “Stewardship Promoter” and is leading our “Sustainable Giving Taskforce” which is part of our Finance Team and is supported by all the PCC and Ministry Team.  If you have not already done so please change your standing orders to St John the Baptist Church as we now bank with CAF Banking Ltd.

You are encouraged to read The Money Revolution by the CofE’s National Stewardship Officer.

Please consider joining Mandy MacVean on 25th May on the YMCA Y2½ Sponsored Walk in aid if The Life Change Fund.  Join a group from Wonersh Church starting at Ranmore Common for a 12 mile walk.

It is planned for U-†urn to undertake a two week trip to Tanzania with CMS 25th July-8th Aug 2009, to experience another culture and to learn from the lives of Christians there.  This is being organised by John Thompson and the YCMT, Diane Henshaw and OMST.  The estimated cost of some £1300 will be raised by individuals with support of the The Alexander Ewart Memorial Fund.  If you would like to go, or be a leader, contact John or Jon.

Please pray for the Alpha Course in the Parish at Blackheath Village Hall every Tuesday, which started with the Taster & Celebration Supper on 15th April.  The Away Day is on Saturday 14th June.

The PCC Accounts for 2007 and the Budget (which will formally be presented at the APCM) are now available.

On the recommendation of the Finance Team, the PCC have agreed that the redecoration of the church will be split into two parts, with the chancel & vestry being done this year and the nave  being left until 2009.
