Parish of Wonersh with Blackheath, Surrey

St Martin's Blackheath, Surrey

The Parish
Blackheath joined with Wonersh in 1998 as part of pastoral reorganisation to form the Parish of Wonersh with Blackheath

The Church Building:
If you have never been to St Martin's, do pay this unusual little church a visit. Built at the end of the 19th century, designed by Charles Harrison Townsend and modelled on an Italian wayside church, it has numerous wall paintings by the Victorian portrait and landscape painter, Anna Lea Merritt. Most pictures depict scenes from the life of Christ. Two of them are shown here. We have to carry out maintenance and restoration work on St Martin's and encourage you to look at our Blackheath Appeal 2008

Apart from services, St. Martin’s Church is occasionally used for evening concerts and is a particularly good venue for such events.

Services:
These are listed on the Services page and range from the traditional to an informal, all age Family Service, particularly suitable for the very young and their families. The Wonersh clergy team alternate taking the services at Blackheath. These are usually well supported and everyone will receive a warm welcome whether they regularly attend, or it is their first visit.

Music at St. Martin’s:
At the Holy Communion Service on the first Sunday in the month and at the sung Evensong on the third Sunday in the month, singing is led by the robed Church Choir. The Choir also sings at special services throughout the year and a larger Christmas Choir sings at the traditional Candlelit Carol Service held each December. Music at the Family Service might be played on the organ, keyboard or guitar.
