Parish of Wonersh with Blackheath

Revd Ian Scott Thompson

Ian was inducted as Vicar of Wonersh with Blackheath on 5th October 2006.

Ian is married to Jane with children Jenny and Rachel.

Ian was born in Kensington in 1957, and grew up on a farm in Ockley (south of Dorking), then among the yachts in Bursledon and Hamble on the Solent  School was at Seaford on the south coast, and then Wellington College in Berkshire, before going up to read Physics at Christ Church Oxford, and coming to Christ at an OICCU mission led by David Watson.  Ian joined the team at Iwerne Minster summer camps in Dorset, led his college CU, and gradually understood that God was calling him to ordained ministry.

Jane was born at Pinner in Middlesex, and grew up in Horsham where her mother still lives, all the family keen members of Brighton Road Baptist Church.  She went to St Anne’s Oxford to read Biochemistry, where she met Ian at Oxford Bus Station!   We married in at St Aldate’s Oxford in 1980, moved to St John’s Nottingham for training, and served curacies in Hartley Wintney (North Hampshire) and Bitterne in Southampton, then ten years at Iford in Bournemouth and seven years as
Team Rector at the Parish of Cove  near Farnborough.

Jenny (19) is now starting her second year reading Maths at Peterhouse Cambridge, and Rachel (16) has just started A-levels at Guildford High School.

Ian grew up with dogs and Jane with cats, but nowadays our only animals are Rachel’s gerbils.  Among other things, we like singing and music, and play guitar, piano, violin, flute, clarinet and percussion.  Jane and Ian help to lead Marriage Encounter weekends (for couples wanting to make a good marriage great), and we’re also very keen on Alpha courses and New Wine summer camps; and of course our Lord Jesus Christ himself!

Ian’s day off is TUESDAY.
