Sharing Our Faith

Romans 10:13-15;  NIV

for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in?

And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?

And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Verse 13 - Joel 2:32 &  Verse 15 - Isaiah 52:7

Share the Gospel – use words when necessary!

Have a look at Two Ways to Live which concisely spells out the basis of our belief., and 3 Reasons why we need Jesus.

Alpha & Christianity Explained

The Alpha course is an opportunity for anyone to explore the basics of Christian faith, developed by Holy Trinity Brompton church in London.  Generally it runs for 10 weeks including a weekend away. It's relaxed, non-threatening, low key, friendly and fun.   Each session begins with a light supper and a video talk, followed by a discussion in groups.  No previous knowledge of the Bible or experience of Christianity is needed.  Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile.  And it's supported by all the main Christian denominations.  For further information visit www.alphacourse.org.uk and for details of our Alpha Courses in the Parish.  The course is also for Christians who wish to develop their personal faith.

Christistianity Explained is a course that has previously been run at Wonersh as an alternative to Alpha.  Sessions were one evening a week for six weeks.  Each evening starts with a meal and a short talk, followed by an opportunity for discussion in groups.  The course was based on the Gospel of Mark.

Over 60’s    Leviticus 19:32;  'Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD.

Liz Tilley, assisted by Karen Munday & Carolyn Hemsley, pay particular attention to the Ministry for the Elderly, loosely the over 55 age group.  The present congregation and village communities have a high percentage of older people who need to be valued, involved and reached.  See also details of the Care Team.

This includes “Holiday at Home”, a two day event which provided a holiday without actually going away.  Following on from H@H, the Discovery Group  was formed for those wishing to develop or renew their Christian faith. Subsequent  “Carry on Discovering” meetings have taken place.

There are several daytime home-groups that provide a supportive caring environment in which people can grow as Christians.  These may especially suit seniors.

Our Senior Citizens Harvest Lunch and Christmas and Easter Teas give us an opportunity to build bridges with a congregation.  The Youth Team have also provided entertainment at their Grand Show and tea.  Several members of the fellowship run (and cook for) the Age Concern weekly lunches at Lawnsmead.

Senior Citizens meet together regularly on Thursday mornings at the 10.30 Holy Communion Service, which is followed by coffee and a chat in the Selwyn Room.  Transport is available if needed.

Memorial Service

On a Saturday in November (usually the week before Remembrance Sunday) each year we hold a Memorial Service which is especially for the bereaved to remember those they have lost, be it recently or at sometime in the past.  This is a simple yet moving service which is attended by many who otherwise do not come to church.  Contact Nansi-Parker

Men’s and Women’s Groups

These groups have been an opportunity to hear Christian witness from a range of speakers.  Neither group is operating at the moment.

Church Fete (Wonersh)

For many years we have organised a summer fête in the church grounds and vicarage garden.  The purpose is to provide a link with the village, and it provides an opportunity for the villagers to visit the church.  Although not the main aim, a modest amount of money is usually raised which is often split between local church and overseas needs.

Hospital Visiting

A group visits the geriatric wards at Farnham Road Hospital in Guildford once a month to sing hymns & lead prayers for elderly patients in Albert & Victoria Wards.  Contact Mary Welsh.   The Care Team also organises visits to home or hospital for anyone in our community – contact Ruth Fowke.

“Get Out There!”

This has been an annual weekend event where some members of the congregation help non-church members with tasks such as gardening, house cleaning, making curtains and meals. It has been a positive and sensitive way of reaching out to the community and was originally an initiative from the youth. It did not take place in 2007 however in 2008 it is planned to take part in the Guildford based  Ready4Action.

Street Wardens

There is a network of Street Wardens who distribute the Parish Magazine to every household and pray for the recipients.

Feast For Life

A week long mission event, called Feast for Life, assisted by the Saltmine Theatre Company was held in 2005, which involved many local schools and many non-church members.
