Men and Women’s Groups
The Men’s Group
URGENT - WE ARE LOOKING FOR LEADERS FOR THIS GROUP. Please contact the Vicar if you feel this is your ministry. Many thanks too Terry Powles and David Groves for undertaking this task for several years.
The Men's Group has over 50 members who meet once a month (except in the summer) for a pint or two at the Grantley Arms, followed by a meal and the chance to hear visiting speakers whose life has been radically changed since they have come to know God. If you feel that there is more to life than you are experiencing, then come and find out what you're missing. The meetings are relaxed and friendly, and all are welcome.
There is also an annual Men’s breakfast and the joint meeting at Christmas with Christian Viewpoint for Women at the Seminary. A Men’s Group team is regularly involved in carrying out practical jobs, such as painting Lawnsmead Hall and repairing the Blackheath Cemetery Chapel.
Several individuals are associated with Christian Viewpoint for Men
There is no programme yet for this

Ladies Group
URGENT - This Group is not operating at this
time. Any volunteers to co-ordinate the
Group should contact the Vicar.
This group entered a period of change. The group, which is affiliated to the national organization now called Activate - Evangelism in the Real World (was Christian Viewpoint for Women), sets out to support and encourage Christian women to share their faith in a natural, relevant and relaxed way with their non-Christian friends. The planning group has become increasingly aware that although these events are very popular we are not drawing new or non-Christian women into the group. The national organization advocates holding smaller gatherings and we want to try out some more creative ideas in the future.
Christian Viewpoint for Women had a
varied programme of events which on the whole was well supported. This was done by having events such
as a Ladies Breakfast, a Pub supper both with a Christian Speaker and a
Christmas evening at the local seminary with carols and readings, interspersed
with larger events such as an Evening with Fiona Castle and a concert by the Christian singer/songwriter Marilyn Baker. The concert
was preceded by drinks and supper in the vicarage garden. It was a beautiful
evening and Marilyn and her assistant Tracy Williamson were able to mingle with
our guests both before and after the concert. We were delighted to learn that
many people were inspired by the words they both had to share with us
Among our speakers have been Rev
Margot Spencer, Rev Liz Boughton – Part
Time Chaplain at the YMCA and Sue Veira – wife of the opera singer Jonathan Veira.
The Ladies Breakfast, cooked by the
men, took place at Lawnsmead on 21st April 2007..

Special Events
With the change in nature of the
ladies Group, we will have to review the organization required for the special
events. Once each year we hold a Mens
Breakfast and a Ladies Breakfast, each held at Lawnsmead and at each the
opposite sex cook organize, prepare and serve the meal. At Christmas we hold a Christmas Evening
which is open to all. This has
previously been at the local seminary and last year was the Christmas Miscellany
at Lawnsmead with carols and readings.
